Areal Flood Watch
Issued by the National Weather Service at 11:24 am EST on March 10, 2010
... Flood Watch now in effect from Thursday evening through Sunday
evening...
The Flood Watch is now in effect for
* portions of east central Ohio... Pennsylvania and West
Virginia... including the following areas... in east central
Ohio... Belmont... Columbiana... Jefferson OH and Monroe. In
Pennsylvania... Allegheny... Armstrong... Beaver... Butler...
Clarion... Forest... Greene... Lawrence... Mercer... Venango and
Washington. In West Virginia... Brooke... Hancock... Marion...
Marshall... Monongalia... Ohio and Wetzel.
* From Thursday evening through Sunday evening
* the National Weather Service is expecting warmer temperatures
to to cause substantial melting of the snow pack over the
forecast area. The melting snow will result in enough runoff
to cause small streams to swell tonight and Thursday. Periods
of rain starting Thursday night into Sunday will add to the
runoff and increase the risk of flooding for streams.
Widespread rainfall Friday into Saturday will increase the
chances of flooding along the Monongahela and Ohio rivers and
their tributaries.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts of snow melt and rainfall.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
